Obituary

Gregory Ernest Blake, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on November 6, 2024, in his hometown of Brush, Colorado, at the age of 57. Born on April 14, 1967, to Francis Ruth Steinke and Harold Blake in Brush, Greg spent his early years in both Brush and Frederick, Colorado, and graduated from Frederick High School in 1985.

Greg found his calling on the open road, working as a truck driver for Warner Enterprises, where he dedicated himself for many years before retiring a few years ago. His travels left him with countless stories, perspectives, and a vast knowledge that only fueled his love of reading. A passionate fan of Louis L'Amour novels, Greg found adventure and wisdom in the pages of his favorite westerns and other books.

Greg was an avid basketball and baseball fan, particularly loyal to the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rockies, and followed their journeys through every season. Greg also had a lifelong love of music, especially 80s rock. With Metallica at the top of his playlist, he found joy in the sounds that shaped his generation.  He also loved stand-up comedy, especially old school comedians like George Carlin, whose humor and insight resonated with Greg's own sharp wit and dry sense of humor.

Greg was incredibly intelligent and loved debating politics, which balanced his keen and humorous mind. Behind that humor was an introverted, quiet, gentle, and kind soul who loved spending time with his nieces and nephews when they were young. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and quiet strength. He was a treasured son, a caring brother, and a beloved uncle who brought joy and love to his family and friends.

Greg is survived by: his mom Francis Ruth Steinke and step-father Rodger Steinke; sisters Aggie Blake-Ruscitti (Giovanni), Amanda Mitchell (Josh), and Crissy Cardwell (Ron); nephews Dante Ruscitti, Donato Ruscitti (Marin) and Silas Mitchell; and nieces Izabella Ruscitti and Evelyn Mitchell.

Greg's family will miss him dearly but find comfort in the memories of his gentle nature, sharp humor, and enduring spirit. A memorial service will be held for family and friends to honor and celebrate his life on November 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Heer Mortuary, 222 Cameron Street, Brush CO 80723, with a reception to follow at Carroll Community Room, 418 Edison Street, Brush, CO 80723.
