Gus J. Boatman, 89, a Fort Morgan resident, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Valley View Villa Nursing Home in Fort Morgan. He was born November 4, 1927, in Arlington, MO to Marshall & Fern Boatman.
On June 20, 1949, Gus married Anita Baker in Wichita Falls, TX. Prior to retirement, Gus worked in the oil and gas exploration industry in Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming.
Gus was an active member of Platte Valley Baptist Church since returning to Fort Morgan in 2006. He enjoyed riding horses, working with mules, riding his motorcycle, doing carpentry work, telling stories, and singing.
Survivors include his wife, Anita of Fort Morgan; 2 children, Kathy Zwetzig of Fort Morgan and Tony (Claudean) Boatman of Windsor, CO; 4 grandchildren, Melinda (Charles) Petty, Jon (Chasity) Zwetzig, Mary Lynn (Victor) Gress, and Kim (Junior) Sanford; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Gary Zwetzig; 1 brother, 4 sisters, and his parents.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Platte Valley Baptist Church in Fort Morgan. The service will conclude at the church. The Heer Mortuaries & Crematory were entrusted with the cremation arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gus' name to Platte Valley Baptist Church's building fund.
