Gwendolyn Gail (Hall) Dilley of Brush, Colorado passed away on April 7, 2025, at East Morgan County Hospital in Brush, following a brief illness. Her family was at her bedside throughout her hospitalization.

Gwen was born to Fred and Rose Hall on April 19, 1935. She was born in a bedroom upstairs at 803 West Edison St in Brush. She is survived by her brother George Hall and his wife Betty of Greeley, her sister Evelyn Kachel and husband Dick of Las Vegas Nevada, sister-in-law Dorothy(Dilley) Wade of North Glenn, Colorado, and her daughter, Dr. Lynn R Dilley of Brush. Her nieces and nephews include Robert Sparks of Oregon, Steve Clay, Karen Carillo of North Glenn. Kitty Sue Hall, Lori Masi and Bret Hall, all from Greeley. Gwen was proceeded in death by her parents, Fred and Rose Hall, a brother Wayne Hall and her beloved husband, Vernon Dilley, and son Jimmy Dilley.

Gwen was the lifelong resident of Brush. She graduated from Brush High School in 1953 and took several courses at Morgan County Community Business College. Gwen started her working career at the soda shop downtown as a youth. She worked at LEI on the auction block with the auctioneers, keeping track of the bids and buyers, and sent the information to the office.

After Gwen and Vernon were married, they started Dilley's Sand and Gravel with an old 1956 Ford tractor and a single dump truck.

In 1972, Gwen and Vernon purchased the old Brush golf course where they built the home and ranch of their dreams. Here they raised and showed registered Quarter and Paint horses.

Their business quickly expanded when they opened three gravel pits in Morgan County. Due to the success of the gravel and excavation businesses, they started up Dilley's Mobile Premix Concrete. Their son Jim Dilley was a partner in all of their business endeavors.

Gwen ran the business office. She was the person you spoke to on the phone and addressed all your concrete, aggregate, and excavation needs. She was in charge of daily operations and accounting at Dilley's Sand and Gravel and Mobil PreMix Concrete. Gwen and her son, Jim Dilley, continued to run the business after her husband Vernon passed away. When her son Jim passed away, she continued the business for another couple of years, but made the difficult decision to have an equipment auction and close the business.

In addition to the ReadyMix Concrete, gravel business, and horse ranch, Gwen was also a Weight Watchers teacher in Brush for many years. Gwen and her friend, Yvonne Gafford helped many people who struggled with self image and weight loss by providing a safe haven for them to meet, and provided them with both counseling and support during their weekly meetings. Gwen made many close friends through this journey.

Gwen had many passions, including music . She gave both piano and guitar lessons. Gwen was gifted with being able to play many instruments including guitar, piano, organ, accordion , cello and the tuba. She passed on the gift and the love of music to many. She loved to be outside and always had beautiful flower beds and rock gardens, both at the office and at her home.

Gwen was an avid reader, she loved to read all kinds of books. Her library card was well used.

She loved wildlife, and even had a squirrel named Ziggy that would come into the office and take peanuts out of her hand. She loved birds and was able to identify all of the species.. Gwen loved cats and had many throughout her lifetime.

In her spare time you could find Gwen riding around the town of Brush with her friends on their bicycles.

Gwen lived a full and very busy 90 years. She loved Brush with all of her heart. She was fiercely protective of friends and family. She never left you without a smile on your face or a song in your heart. She will be greatly missed!

Her family wants to thank all of the Doctors, Nurses, laboratory staff, dietary staff, Chef Barry, housekeeping, physical therapists and respiratory therapists for all of the professional, loving care they gave her while she was at East Morgan County Hospital. All of them made this difficult journey much more peaceful for Gwen and her family.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
