Obituary

Hajime "Jimmy" Nukaya, 91, lifetime resident of Morgan County, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. Jimmy was born July 14, 1923 in Hillrose, CO to George and Kane (Sakurada) Nukaya. He married Grace Mori on March 8, 1953 in Sterling, CO. Jimmy served in WWII as a Japanese translator, where he was able to meet his two sisters in Japan after the war. He dedicated his life to farming, winning several awards, including High Ten Grower. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Soil Conservation Society and the V.F.W. Jimmy enjoyed woodworking and watching sports. Survivors include his daughter Lori Nukaya Abney (Kent); and one granddaughter, Stephanie Teru Abney all of Los Alamos, NM, and one sister, Tomiko Matsuura (Harry) of Arlington, VA. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Nukaya; his son, Mark Nukaya; five sisters, three brothers and his parents. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan, CO. Inurnment will follow immediately in Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO. The family would like to extend a thank you to Eben-Ezer Luthern Care Center for their great care and service. We will miss our father, uncle, friend, and grandfather.
