Hannah Krening, 98, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Valley View Villa Care Center in Ft. Morgan. She was born May 27, 1909 in Otis, Kansas to Henry and Sophie (Heardt) Pope. Hannah's parents were German immigrants and settled in Otis, Kansas. Her mother and infant son died in childbirth when Hannah was eight years old. Following their death her father moved the family to Ft. Morgan where Hannah grew up. She met William (Bill) Krening in Ft. Morgan and married him on August 11, 1927 in Ft. Morgan. They farmed in Ft. Morgan until 1947. Bill and Hannah then moved to Wray, Colorado where they owned and operated a restaurant and also a gravel business. They returned to Ft. Morgan in 1950. Mrs. Krening was a member of the Shepherd of the Plains Church in Ft. Morgan, formerly the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Hannah enjoyed cooking, fishing, crocheting and visiting with friends and relatives. She was a good seamstress and made all of her children's clothes when they were little. Survivors include two sons, William L. Krening Jr. of Ft. Morgan and Don L. Krening of Salome, Arizona, one daughter, Donna L. Whomble of Wray, Colorado, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William who died in 2000, one son, Leonard Krening, three brothers, Paul, Roy and Sherman Pope and one sister, Bertha Toepfer. There will be a visitation on Monday, December 10, 2007 from 2 until 5 PM at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. Graveside Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 1:30 PM at Memory Gardens in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow the service. The Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Ft. Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.
