Obituary

Harley Pickett, 81, passed away on January 29, 2013 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. Harley Lee Pickett was born to Charles and Ruby (Philpot) Pickett on August 29, 1931 in McPherson County, NE, being the ninth of seventeen children. When he was young he helped out with the family chores. Harley enlisted in the U.S. Army in the early 1950's to serve his country in the Korean Conflict. After the U. S. Army term, he worked at several jobs until he met Bonnie Elnora Elwood. He married Bonnie on May 29, 1953 and three daughters were born to them. Harley found that he enjoyed the oilfield and moved his family around with him as the rigs would move. He lived and worked in many countries for many years before retiring in 1985. They then moved to Fort Collins where Harley bought and ran two small convenience stores until ill health forced him to sell them. After Bonnie succumbed to cancer, Harley met Millie Miller with whom he stayed very close, special friends until his death. Harley is survived by his three daughters, Peggy (Steve) Binger, Rhonda Vigil and Debra (Glenn) Call; grandchildren, Rocky, Nick, Mark, Catherine, Angelica, Joshua; fourteen great grandchildren, his special friend, two brothers, Don and family, Larry and family and one sister, Bonnie Newton and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie of 45 years, parents, Charles and Ruby Pickett; siblings, Ora, Ray, Fay, Ivan, Gladys, EllaMae, Erma, Lonnie, Vern, Wayne, two baby brothers, Charles and Percy and one baby sister. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush. The service will conclude at the mortuary. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
