Harold S. "Hal" Meek Jr., 49, a loving husband, son, brother, stepfather, uncle and friend, departed this transient life on Sunday evening, March 18, 2007. Hal was born at the Ft. Morgan Community Hospital on November 5, 1957 to Harold and Elizabeth (Carlock) Meek. He spent his early years in the Ft. Morgan community before moving with his family to Sterling, then to Yuma in 1968. Hal graduated from Yuma High School in 1976. After working at various jobs for a short time, he joined the United States Army in 1978 where he was trained as a military policeman. He served in South Korea, Fort Ord, CA and Ft. Carson, CO until his honorable discharge in 1980. Hal returned to Yuma after his discharge where he worked for the City for a number of years. Hal then moved to Greeley where he worked for Exeter Drilling as a roughneck. It was during these years that his love of the biker lifestyle, the wind in his face, and his passion for the open road rekindled. Hal spent much of his leisure time with Julie on the "Red Sled" taking trips to Sturgis and riding in poker runs, including the Sandhill Poker Run for Wind & Fire, (a Colorado firefighters group that helped charitable events for organizations like Caring Ministries). He was a member of the Colorado District One Chapter of ABATE. Later Hal spent many years working for Wiggins CO-OP and Stub's Oil and Gas delivering propane, humor and conversation to the area farmers. Hal's final occupation was with Kerr-McGee(Anarko) where he worked as an oil field pumper until his tragic death. Hal met Julie Wiltfang during his time in Greeley and they were married on September 10, 1988 in Green Mountain Falls, CO. At that time he became a devoted and loving stepfather to Nicholaus and Micki. Hal leaves his beloved wife, Julie and her children, Nicholaus Bliven of Fort Morgan and Micki Cantrell of Wray, CO to mourn his passing. He also leaves behind his mother, Elizabeth (Carlock) Garland and her husband, Norman of Walsenburg, CO., his brothers; Fred, and wife Rolinda Meek of Yuma, Kevin, and wife Neva Meek of Craig; a sister, Sherry, and husband Stuart Smith of Pueblo West, CO; aunts, Evelyn, and husband Fred Hope of Greeley and Glenda Wagner of Brush, an uncle Harry, and wife Lynn Meek of Ft. Collins, step-uncles, Rodney, and wife Dana Washburn and Kieth, and wife Marsha Washburn all of Ft. Morgan and step grandmother, Phyllis Carlock of Wiggins. He is also survived by nieces, Brandi, and husband Paul Sterle and their son Tucker of Craig, Sara, Rebecca and Kaci Meek of Craig, Tricia and Britani Meek of Yuma, Katie Smith and a nephew, Steven Smith both of Pueblo West. He also leaves Julie's family which includes her father, Everett Wiltfang of Wray, her sisters, Tammy Rogers and family of Orlando, Florida, Rhonda Mekelburg and family of Yuma, CO, her brothers, Steve Wiltfang and family of Seattle, Washington, Jason Wiltfang and family of Wray, CO and Justin Wiltfang and family also of Wray, and Julie's step-mother, Jean Wiltfang of Wray. Hal was preceded in death by his father Stan Meek, grandparents, Ethel and Harry Meek and Mary Carlock and Glen Carlock and infant nephews Robert and Christopher Meek. The family has requested that in lieu of memorials, stuffed animals for the Toys For Tots Program would be greatly appreciated. Memorial Services will be Friday, March 23, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Sanctuary in Ft. Morgan. The service will conclude at the church with military honors by VFW #2551. The Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
