Harold "Newt" A. Peterson, 88, life resident of the Brush area, passed away Monday night, May 23, 2011, at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born November 9, 1922, on the family farm near Brush to Lewis & Mary Peterson. Newt graduated from Brush High School in 1941. On November 24, 1943, he married Nola Atkinson. She passed away in 1971. On July 7, 1973, Newt married Luella Freeman-Langlois at the Eben Ezer Chapel in Brush. Newt farmed south of Brush for many years. He later worked for 15 years for Mohrlang Mfg. After retiring, he worked at the Bunker Hill Country Club and mowed the lawn for the Brush Masonic Lodge. Newt was a member of the Brush United Methodist Church and the Brush Masonic Lodge AF & AM #123 for over 60 years, where he was a past master, and the Eastern Star. He enjoyed being outdoors, golfing, fishing, hunting with bow & arrow and gun, and working with horses. Survivors include his wife, Luella, of Brush; 4 children, Crystal Anderson, and her husband, Dave, of Denver, Teresa Higgins of Corpus Christi, TX, and Tanna Church of Farmington, NM, and Kevin V. Langlois; 1 sister, Arla Cook, of Brush; 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife preceding him in death, Newt was preceded in death by 2 children, Sharon Kay Peterson and Kyle Langlois; a son-in-law, Michael Church; 1 brother, John Peterson; 4 sisters, Grace Middleton, Dorothy Awmiller, Elsie Albers, and Marge Spafford, and his parents. A memorial service with Masonic Rites will be Friday, May 27, at the Brush United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts may be given to the Newt Peterson Memorial Fund c/o the Heer & Dahl Mortuary.
