On December 27, 1917, Harry Herman Achziger was born in Gering, Nebraska. He was the second child of Benjamin and Elizabeth Achziger. The Achziger family moved to Fort Morgan in 1927, where Harry's father opened a grocery store on Main Street. In 1933, Benjamin started Achziger Oil Company, which would remain in the family for sixty years. Harry graduated from high school in 1935 and began delivering fuel to farmers in Morgan and surrounding counties. On July 10, 1938, Harry married Rosemary Work, also of Fort Morgan. They had three sons, Don born in 1939, Mark born in 1947, and Alan born in 1949. Harry enjoyed golfing, fishing, pitch, bridge and his dogs. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren and made an effort to be a presence in their lives and encouraged them in their education. Harry was a kind and gentle man who was loved and respected by his family and those who had the pleasure to know him. Harry passed away on Monday, May 14th, surrounded by his family. Harry is survived by his sister, Irene Stoll of Detroit; his son, Don and wife, Mary of Hideaway, Texas; his son, Mark Achziger of Fort Morgan; five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Rosemary, a son, Alan, a brother, Benjamin Achziger and a sister, Elsie Schwint. There will be a funeral liturgy at St. Helena Catholic Church on Monday, May 21, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the liturgy. At the family's request, donations may be made in Harry's memory to Morgan Humane Society.
