Hazel Hanson, 92, life resident of Akron, Fort Morgan, and Brush, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. She was born April 5, 1914, in Akron, to Frank & Verde Mae Batterson. On October 5, 1933, Hazel married Mark Leonard Hanson in Akron. Though her primary vocation was a homemaker, Hazel had several occupations during her life. She worked at the Glove Factory, operated the Morgan County Taxi with her husband, was a dishwasher at the 66 Café, and served as a foster parent, babysitter and caretaker for many years. She was a member of the Assembly of God (Sanctuary). She loved kids and was well known as a "natural-born" caretaker. She enjoyed visiting and being with her family and friends. Church was very important to Hazel and she loved listening to gospel music. Survivors include her children, June Bohl and Robert Hanson both of Fort Morgan, Ervin Hanson of Denver, and Theresa Harris also of Fort Morgan; 3 sisters, June Adkins of El Paso, TX, Jane Carothers of Sacramento, CA, and Lila Turner of Fort Morgan, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 daughter, Verda Anna Eli, 1 granddaughter, 2 brothers, Frank and Ervin Batterson, her parents, and her step-mother, Ethel Batterson. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary on Tuesday from 4 - 7 PM.
