Helen Virginia Kauffman, 82, lifelong Brush resident, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at her home in Brush. Mrs. Kauffman was born August 15, 1928 in Brighton, CO to Henry and Anna (French) Brening. At the age of 2 ½ the family moved to Brush where she has lived all of her life. She graduated from Brush High School. Helen married Ralph Ruben Kauffman on June 27, 1948 in Brush. She was an active member of the Immanuel Congregational Church. She taught Sunday school for 14 years and was a member of the Women's Fellowship. Helen was also active in the Star Home Extension Club and the leader of the Star Daughters 4-H Club for 25 years. She worked for J.C Penney of Brush and then worked for 25 years at the Western Sugar Company before retiring to spend more time camping, fishing and traveling with Ralph, which they both loved. Helen loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, teaching them along with Ralph, all about hiking, camping and fishing on their annual family camping trips. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Kauffman of Brush, her daughters; Meredith Allen of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Sharon Cox of Cypress, Texas, her son; Randal Kauffman of Brush and their spouses, a sister; Maryann Walter of Brush, brothers; George Brening of Brush, Charles Brening of Surprise, Arizona, 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and one brother; Harold Brening. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 4 until 7 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush. Funeral Services will be Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Congregational Church in Brush. Interment will follow in Brush Memorial Cemetery.
