Obituary

Helen Thompson, 86, lifelong area resident, died Saturday, October 7, 2017 at her home in Fort Morgan.

She was born September 2, 1931 in Fort Morgan to Clem & Annie (Steffens) Wright. She graduated from Wiggins High School in 1951. Helen married Leon Thompson on November 13, 1960.

Helen worked in the fabrics department at the local Alco for about six years, but she spent most of her time as a homemaker. She loved taking care of her chickens, and burros, and she liked to feed the feral cats in her yard. She was known as "Grandma Chicken" to her great grandchildren. Helen loved to be outside tending to her yard and gardening, which she did faithfully until about the last year of her life. Helen also enjoyed hand making quilts during the winter time when the weather kept her inside. Helen was a longtime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Wingstrom and husband, Dale of Fort Morgan, and Gail Moody and husband, Doran of Englewood; her sister, Eva Taylor of Berthoud, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Glenn, Fred, Harold, and Robert Wright; three sisters, Clara May Weimer, Faye Poe, and Dorothy Nestor; her husband, Leon Thompson; and her son, Larry Ray Owl.

A memorial service will be Friday, October 13th at 11:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the chapel. Private Inurnment will take place in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
