Helen LaVerne Yager, 93, longtime area resident, passed away, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, CO. She was born November 6, 1919 in Ideal, South Dakota to Gerald and Edith (Roosa) Shouse. Helen married John J. Yager on December 31, 1944 in Deer Trail, CO. They moved to Ft. Morgan from Deer Trail in 1947. John died in 2009. Helen was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Ft. Morgan, most recently serving as a deacon. She was also a member of the local Republican women's organization and worked as an election judge on election day, for many years. Helen enjoyed quilting, and sewing for family and friends, reading, world- wide travel, making stained glass creations, canning and baking. In her earlier years she always had a big garden in their yard. She supported her husband John in his various endeavors, and they worked side by side in the Sears Catalog Store for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Boeck and husband Jim of Sahuarita, AZ and Jeri Price and husband Rick of Apple Valley MN; one son, Corey Yager of Aurora, CO and his wife Cheryl; one sister, Shirley Petersen of Ft. Morgan; grandchildren, Heather Friedmann and husband Marco, of Karlsruhe, Germany, James H. Boeck of Tucson, AZ, Whitney Swander and husband Jeff of Longmont, CO, Regan Mueller and husband Derek of Rochester, MN, Brent Yager and wife Amanda of Chesterfield, VA, and Ryan Yager of Bridgeport, WV; and great grandchildren, Ella and Amy Friedmann, Justus, Evelyn, Selah and Julia Mueller, and Amyah Yager. Helen was preceded in death by her husband John, an infant sister and her parents. Memorial Services will be Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:00 am at the United Presbyterian Church in Ft. Morgan. Inurnment will follow in the Church Columbarium.
