Obituary

Henry "Hank" Thiel Jr., 89, of Fort Morgan, died Tuesday evening at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. He was born February 21, 1923 in Minatare, NE to Henry Sr. and Anna (Temple) Thiel. Henry served our country by enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He married Doris Flohr on June 11, 1944 in Fort Morgan where they made their home and where Henry has been active in the community dedicating his time to many organizations. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church serving on many committees. He is a past district president and past governor of the Rocky Mountain area of the Lutheran Layman's League. He was past president of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the American Legion, Toastmasters, and served on the board of directors for the Good Shepherd Homes. He was on the board of directors for the Orphan Grain Train. He was instrumental in bringing the American Beef Company to Fort Morgan, and was active in many water issues in the county. He organized the first town baseball team, the Pullen Motors team, in the early 1940's. Henry is survived by his wife Doris of Fort Morgan, one daughter Deanna Thompson of Redmond, WA, three sons William Thiel, Gerry Thiel and Thomas Thiel all of Fort Morgan, one brother Paul Thiel of Fremont, CA, seven sisters Frieda Chiara, Miriam Rasmussen, Priscilla Glasco and Gloria Thiel all of Fort Morgan, Ruth Glantz of Danville, CA, Florence Uhrmacher of Hastings, NE, and Jeannette Hohnstein of Anchorage, AK, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Anna Becker and Lillian Miller and one brother Jacob Thiel. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24, at 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. The service will conclude at the church. A private interment will be held in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan. Friends who wish may make memorial donations in Henry's name care of the Heer & Dahl Mortuary 225 E.
