Henry Carr Zink, 76, longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his home in Fort Morgan. He was born January 14, 1933 in Cockeysville, Maryland to Henry and Rama (Carr) Zink. Henry married Gloria E. Saxmann on June 13, 1953 in Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church in Cantonsville, Maryland. Following high school he was a member of the Maryland National Guard for 2 years and received his Honorable Discharge on July 29, 1951 as a PVT 1c1, BTRY 'B', 224th Field Artillery Battalion. During the Korean Conflict he enlisted in the United States Navy on August 13, 1951 and rose to the rank of Engineman Third Class. He was Honorably Discharged on August 5, 1955. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Henry was a member of St. Charles Episcopal Church in Fort Morgan. He was also a member of the American Legion in Maryland, was a twenty five year member of NCHA (National Campers & Hikers Association) serving most of that time as regional director. He loved camping, hunting, hiking and fishing. Henry was a third generation volunteer firefighter in Baltimore County, MD, a Boy Scout leader and also a 4-H leader for many years. Following his military career, he returned to Maryland from Norfolk, Virginia and went into a four year trade school program with the United Jointers & Carpenters of America where he completed his education in Carpentry and Cabinet-making, becoming a journeyman carpenter. After graduation he began a long career in commercial/industrial construction, including, but not limited to, an eleven story high-rise concrete and steel office building in Virginia, many 1–4 story buildings in Maryland, Texas and Arizona. He was superintendent for the construction of most of the barrier walls in the median strip areas of I-695; the beltway surrounding Baltimore, Maryland. During the early seventies he was responsible for overseeing the building of more than one hundred bridges over the rivers destroyed by hurricanes in the Maryland area, mostly in Baltimore County, Maryland. Upon moving to Colorado he began a career of office building renovations, doing many renovations to St. Joseph's hospital and their related medical office buildings and new office building construction of 1–3 story facilities. He was totally in charge of the complete renovation of a penthouse in the Washington Park Area for a prince from Saudi Arabia. Henry left Maryland for health reasons in September of 1978. He moved from Northglenn to Fort Morgan in August of 1990 and was hired by RE-3 School District in the maintenance department, maintaining seven schools and the administration, print shop and transportation buildings. Henry retired in June 1998 following a heart attack, but maintained reasonable health conditions and activities during his 11 years of retirement. Survivors include daughters: Barbara Zink-Frederick and her children, hristina & John of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, Cindy Herbert (spouse-Michael) of Millers, Maryland and their son, Matthew, son, John (spouse-Karen) and his children Tyler and Justin, and Mickayla of Fort Morgan, Colorado; and foster daughter LuAnne Kraus and her son, Nicholas of Brighton, Colorado. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, essica Ashley Zink Memorial srvices will be Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Saint Charles Episcopal Church in Ft. Morgan. The services will conclude at the church.
