Howard Paul Smallwood, 85, passed away on Saturday July 15, 2017 at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO.  Howard was born December 12, 1931 in Hannibal, MO to Howard Arthur and Dessie Harriet Smallwood.

He was a member of the American Legion Sagebrush Post 68 in Brush Colorado. He served in the Korean War from 1956-1957.  One of his highlights in life was his Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  He married Elfriede after meeting her in Germany, and they had three children.  Three years after his wife's passing he met Carlene who had three children. They were married in 2006.

He and his wife Carlene traveled around the United States seeing the country and enjoyed working in KOA campgrounds.  He enjoyed helping on the farm, yard work, and enjoyed collecting John Wayne memorabilia.  In 2011 Howard and Carlene bought their home in Brush, where they lived until his passing. He cherished spending time with his family.

Howard is survived by his wife, Carlene; seven children, Sandra Stegall, Diane Corp, Allen Smallwood, Linda Fulayter, James Smallwood, Kelly Yeisley, and Candace Wuchter; one sister Florence Stanley; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Jamie Abazaris; and a grandson, Josh Fulayter.

Visitation is Thursday July 20, 2017 from 11:00am-2:00pm at Heer Mortuary Brush Chapel followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00pm with military honors by The American Legion Sagebrush Post and VFW #3551 and Patriot Honor Guard. Interment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 11:15AM on Monday July 24, 2017, Staging Area C.
