ILA FAYE HEGLAND, 62, of Fort Morgan, died Monday evening, March 21, 2011 at Colorado Plains Medical in Fort Morgan after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Orange City, IA on December 16, 1948 to Peter & LaVonne (Van Zee) Hofmeyer. She attended school and graduated from college in western Iowa. She married Robert Scott Hegland on July 15, 1972. Mrs. Hegland taught high school Social Studies in Council Bluffs, IA for about six years before she and her husband made Fort Morgan their home in 1979. She was employed as a representative for the Social Security Administration office in Fort Morgan for nearly 27 years before her retirement in 2001. Mrs. Hegland was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan. She enjoyed, boating, riding motorcycles, traveling, and reading. She was an avid Denver Nuggets fan. Spending time with her grandchildren brought her the most joy. Survivors include her husband, Scott Hegland and her two daughters, Allison Yearous and Erika Roberts, all of Fort Morgan; her parents, Peter & LaVonne Hofmeyer of Sioux Center, IA; her two sisters, Peg Smith of Rock Valley, IA and Rita Van Essen of Edgerton, MN; and her two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Hofmeyer. A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 25th at the United Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the church. Private Inurnment will be in Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan.
