Obituary

Ila Mae Vick was born in Otis, CO, on May 6, 1912 and left for her heavenly home on February 3, 2017, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.

Ila was the third of six children born to George & Nora Belle Farris. Her early years were spent on the farm north of Otis, CO. Ila attended schools in the Otis area through the 10th grade. She then stayed home to care for her two younger brothers & baby sister.

Ila was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Otis. Her faith was always significant to her and an important part of her daily life.

In 1930, Ila married her childhood sweetheart, Harry Shafer, also of Otis. Together, they had and raised one daughter, Janice Kay and one son, Carrol Jay.

In 1940 the Shafer family moved to Wray, CO where they farmed, and in 1943 returned to Otis, where they farmed until 1955. They sold their farm in Otis due to health reasons and moved to Loveland, CO.  In December 1959, Harry passed away. Ila then worked as an office nurse for Dr. M. M. Vick.  She married Dr. Vick in 1970 and continued working as a nurse until her retirement in 1977.  Dr. Vick passed away in 1984.

Ila's son, Carrol Jay, passed away due to injuries suffered in a car accident in 1994.

Ila continued to live in Loveland until 1996, when she moved to Keenesburg, CO to live with her daughter Janice and son-in-law Don. After 3 years, she moved back to Loveland to an independent living community in a retirement home to be closer to her friends.

After 4 years, Ila moved to Eben Ezer independent living in Brush to again be closer to Janice and her family, who had moved from Keenesburg to Brush. In 2006 Ila moved to the Aladdin Assisted Living Center in Brush, and then to full care at Eben Ezer in 2009

In addition to her two children, Ila had 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She had 4 step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren and several beloved nieces & nephews. Ila was preceded in death by her two husbands, her son, one step-son, one step-grandson, her parents, and all her brothers & sisters.

Ila loved doing and caring for others, working with crafts, painting pictures, reading, doing word puzzles and spending time with her family & friends. Daily reading of her Bible was an inspiration to her & others. She had many friends wherever she went. She was a very gentle, humble, caring, giving, and loving person who will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
