Irvin Leroy Speaker, 86, longtime area resident, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Eben-Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. Irvin was born May 21, 1927 to John and Katherine (Kler) Speaker in Haxton. His parents were both born in Norka, Russia. He married Marie R. Turley on August 15, 1958 in Fort Morgan. Irvin attended school at Sunnydale, a country school in the area, and Buckingham High School graduating in 1946. He farmed and raised cattle in the Buckingham, Briggsdale area from 1946 until 2008. In 2008 after a fire destroyed his house, he and Marie moved to Ft. Morgan. He also worked for over twenty years as campaign help at the Great Western Sugar Company in Fort Morgan. Irvin was a member of the Weldon Valley Presbyterian Church in Goodrich. In his earlier years he served on an ASCS Committee in Weld County, was a member of the Fort Morgan Elks Lodge, and a member of the Greeley Moose Lodge. Irvin loved to polka dance. Survivors include; his wife Marie of Ft. Morgan, two sons, Michael L. Speaker of Briggsdale and Mark J. Speaker of Berthoud, two grandchildren, and two nephews. Irvin was preceded in death by his brother, Paul J. Speaker, his sister, Marion L. Hays, one nephew, and his parents. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Weldon Valley Presbyterian Church in Goodrich. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm in Memory Gardens. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Weldon Valley Church in Goodrich. The Heer Mortuary in Ft. Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.
