IVAN LEE MESMER, 91, longtime area resident, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born November 7, 1916 in Soldier, KS to Edward & Sadie Mae (Buckley) Mesmer. He married Letha Dwinell on May 27, 1934 in Newton, KS. The family moved to Orchard in 1941. They later moved to Goodrich and then to Fort Morgan in 1959. Mr. Mesmer farmed for a short time prior to opening the Goodrich Garage when he did mechanic work. He also ran the Frontier Truck Stop in Fort Morgan from 1959 until 1966 and worked as an automobile salesman for a number of years. Mr. Mesmer was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed playing card games and being around people. He especially enjoyed frequent visits to the coffee shop. Survivors include four sons; Dave Mesmer & Dean Mesmer, both of Fort Morgan; Ted Mesmer of Weldona, and Keith Mesmer of Brooklyn Park, MN; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; Letha Mesmer, his parents; one brother, Alan Mesmer; and two sisters, Edna Markham and Marjorie Shupp. A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan. There has been cremation. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Pallative Care of Northern Colorado, 1106 E. Sixth Ave., Fort Morgan, CO 80701. The Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of arrangements.
