Jack Richard Miller was born November 2, 1940 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina to John and Florence Miller. He grew up the son of a career Army Warrant Officer in the Caribbean, Japan, Europe and the United States and attended 13 schools where he developed his unique sense of humor before high school graduation in Livorno, Italy in 1958. He achieved a BA from the University of Colorado in 1962 and married Gwen Osborne before joining the military as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers ending with a final rank of Captain in 1967 after serving in posts including Heidelberg, Germany; Fort Knox, Kentucky; and, Cu Chi, Viet Nam. He became a teacher in 1968 often honing his techniques on his children and using them as classroom examples. He started at the Junior High in Wray, CO before settling in Fort Morgan in 1969 and putting down roots. He completed an MA from UNC in Greeley and spent many years teaching fifth grade at Sherman Elementary as well as later years at the middle school, high school and part time at MCC until he retired in 1993 as a result of complications from Guillain-Barré Syndrome. He enjoyed volunteering at the Fort Morgan Public Library fixing books, tapes, etc. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Gwen. He was the proud father of two children, Rick and Jody of Loveland, CO and Monique (Pebbles) and James of Broomfield, CO; treasured grandchildren Janelle, Kendra, Brooke, Rebecca, Joshua, and Eric; 5 great-grandchildren; and two wonderful brothers Ron of Richmond, VA and Frank of Canon City, CO. He was much loved by his brothers and sisters in-law and his many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 PM on Thursday, August 29th at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Funeral services will be Friday, August 30th at 11:00 AM, also at the chapel. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Morgan Public Library or the GBS Foundation in care of the Heer Mortuary.
