Jack Francis Westhoff, 79, ended his battle with brain cancer on December 5, 2018 at Eben Ezer Care Center in Brush, Colo. Jack, a lifelong Fort Morgan resident, was born November 26, 1939 to Richard and Verga (McFarland) Westhoff. He was raised on the family homestead near Weldona and graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1957. After attending radio and television repair school in Denver, he began working for Fort Morgan Furniture store repairing sewing machines and appliances. In 1968 he took over operating the family farm where he grew dryland wheat and raised cattle, hogs, and chickens.

In 1969, he married Sandy Weimer. They were married for 49 years and raised three daughters. In the 1980s, Jack opened a small engine repair shop, The Grindstone, on Ensign Street in Fort Morgan. While there, he became an official Stihl dealer, trained many FFA students, worked with the Young Farmers on small engines, and earned a reputation for being able to fix almost anything. After retiring from The Grindstone, Jack worked at Heartland and later Central Auto Parts as a repair technician.

Jack began his lifetime membership of the B.P.O.E. 1143 in 1961 and was voted Elk of the Year in 1976. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served in many roles at St. Helena's Catholic Church including usher, building committee chairman and choir member. He was an avid Broncos, Rockies, and Avalanche fan, particularly in winning seasons. Jack enjoyed puzzles, card games, gardening, and tinkering with various inventions. He took pleasure in entertaining the family with stories of his adventures and misdeeds.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy, his three daughters, Kathy (Monty) Makings of Weldona, Becky (David) Powell of Greeley, and Laura (Jeremy) West of Rifle. He had seven grandchildren: Korinna, Keenan, Kory and Kaylee Powell; Abigail West; and Todd and Luke Makings. Jack is also survived by his sister, Alice Stephan of Grand Prairie, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don Westhoff, sister Doris Ann, and grandson Kaden Powell.

Rosary will be held at Heer Mortuary on Sunday, December 9, at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at St. Helena's Catholic Church Monday, December 10, at 10:00 am. Services will end at the church with private internment later.

Memorials may be sent to Heer Mortuary with the intent of donating the money towards furthering education in small engine and agricultural technology.
