Obituary

Jacob Walker, "Horse Jake", 93, longtime Morgan County resident, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. He was born December 16, 1916, in Montrose, CO. to Casper & Lena Walker. Jake served in the US Navy during WW II. After his discharge, he moved to the Hillrose community where he began farming and ranching. He was well known for his ability in training horses to do several different types of tricks. Many of the horses that he trained performed in rodeos throughout the area, including Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, of Brush; 3 children, Rex of Oklahoma, Jim, and his wife, Jodie, of Loveland, CO, and Judy Walton of Merino, CO; 1 brother, Gerhardt of California; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Richard, and 1 granddaughter, Jeni; 2 sisters, 5 brothers, and his parents. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 29, 2010, at 1:30 PM at the All Saints Lutheran Church at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. The service will conclude at the church. Friends who wish, may make memorial gifts to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center or to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the mortuary.
