J. Milton Hinson, 95, died September 30, 2006, in Maryville, MO. He was born June 3, 1911, in rural Wood County, TX, to Judge J. R. & Mary Eloise Rouse Hinson. As a boy he was already an enterprising farmer, selling his produce at local stores in Gilmber on his way to school. He graduated from Gilmer High Schoool, where he was active in athletics, and attended college on a football scholarship until sidelined by injuries. His first career, in petroleum exploration, brought him to Fort Morgan, where he met his future bride, Alma Evelyn Beynard. The were married in 1934 in Fort Morgan and three children. While living in Fort Morgan, Milton worked for a time for the Willard Reid Lumber Company. Later he rejoined Amerada Petroleum in Casper, WY. There he married JoAnn Waggener. In Casper Milton was active in the Kiwanis Club, the Firt Methodist Church, the Girl Scouts, the Casper Petroleum Club, and other clubs and civic groups. He was an avid golfer and also coached JoAnn to a chompionship level. From 1953 - 58 he worked for a British oil exploration firm, taking his family to live in western Canada for five years, and also being posted to London, England and Tripoli, Libya. In 1958, the Hinson family returned to Casper and Milton and JoAnn bought a restaurant which they operated for many years, as well as managing the Casper Country Club. In 1966 they moved to a farm in East Texas where they bred polled Herefors and JoAnn pursued her career in nursing home administration. After he retirement they spent a decade in Loveland, CO, before moving to Maryville in 2003. Survivors include his daughter, Virginia Murr of Maryville, MO, and Jean Lall of Baltimore, MD; 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a sister, Mertie Inman of Prescott, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, who died in 2004, 2 children, Robert who died in 1942 and Evelyn who died in 1944, and 4 brothers. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 11:00 AM at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan, CO. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
