James L. Spotts, 75, longtime Morgan County resident and businessman, passed away Tuesday night, June 18, 2013 at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. He was born May 28, 1938, in Fort Morgan, CO, to Harold & Dorothy Spotts. When James was 11 years old his family moved back to Morgan County. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1956. Following graduation, James joined the US Navy. After his honorable discharge, James moved back to Fort Morgan and began working with Spotts Brothers, the family business. James was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #1143. He had many hobbies. He enjoyed drag racing and held 7 national speed records; shooting guns and gun smithing, playing his guitar and played with several area country / western bands over the years; and he enjoyed wood working. Survivors include his 2 sons, John Spotz of Denver and Jack Spotz, and his wife Jade of Fort Morgan; 2 sisters, Gerri Holden and Judy Ruppel both of Fort Morgan; and 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Robert, Shane, and Bailey Jo. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 10:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
