Obituary

Janis Jo Egan, 69, lifelong area resident, entered God's kingdom on November 27, 2020. She was born June 23,1951 in Holdrege, NE to Gerald and Bonnie Egan.

Jan was confirmed at the Wiggins Community Church and later graduated from Wiggins High School in 1969.

She married Alvin Hicks in 1973 and from that union, came the joy of their lives; a daughter, Jennifer and a son, Anthony. Although they divorced, the love for their children always bonded them.

Jan worked a lot of different places, from home selling Avon, vacuums etc. to bookkeeping and caregiving. She loved animals; her dream was to start a pet shop. In 1987 she put a plan together and created Pets R People Too, which she ran until a car accident left her incapable of running a business. She sold the shop to her sister and brother-in-law in 1994. Her dream lives on today.

Jan loved God and the nature he created. She loved the simple things in life, old farm houses and country living. She had gardens and flowers and a passion for taking pictures, always a camera in her hand at every family event.

In 2017, Jan was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, but she never gave up.  She endured chemo and radiation for a year, and thru God the tumor was gone, but it took its toll on her. She never lost her faith or love of life, always positive and a sense of humor. She fought a hard fight but just couldn't beat the corona virus. She will be missed by many.

Janis was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father, Gerald Egan. She is survived by her mother, Bonnie Egan; children, Jennifer (Jonah) Wernsman, and Anthony (Nikki) Hicks; six grandchildren, ChelsiJo (Scott) Mildenberger, Cara White, Mollie and Bailey Wernsman, and Cheyenne and Michael Hicks; and one great grandson, Kyler Mildenberger; her sisters, Sandra (Tom) Ruhl and Cindy (Gene) Wehrer, and many nieces and nephews.
