Jean Margaret
Budik
May 30, 1941 — Jun 23, 2023
Jean Margaret Unzeitig was born May 30, 1941 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. She passed away to God's loving arms at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center on June 23, 2023. Her parents were Alfred Vincent Unzeitig and Elaine Agnes (Haeny) Unzeitig. She was the second of 4 children. Jean grew up in Sleepy Eye, Walnut Grove, Morton, Lamberton and Redwood Falls, MN. After graduation from Lamberton High School in 1959, she started Beauty College in Mankato, MN. She met her husband-to-be, David M. Budik and they embarked on a 53-year marriage on March 4, 1960, and were blessed with two children. David was employed by the Federal Government and they frequently relocated to MO, MN, ND, CO, and WA. When the kids were young, she completed Beauty College and started a brief career as a beautician. She really enjoyed "doing hair", and continued to do family and friends' hair for many years. The family spent several happy years camping and fishing at lakes in MN and traveled to SD and MT. She enjoyed her next career as a secretary for an insurance agency and then for many years for the Federal Government, until her retirement. After retiring, Jean opened her own knitting shop in Shelton, WA. She loved knitting—both hand and machine—and sold yarns and machines and taught classes. Retirement and selling her knitting shop allowed Jean and Dave to relocate a few more times to MN, CO, back to MN and finally WA again. During this time Jean met so many good friends as she worked part-time as a desk clerk for a motel, a paymaster at a casino (BINGO) and a Sample Rep at Costco. Jean loved BINGO and slots and could be found many times at double-sessions or at her favorite casino—The Redwind. She also loved her BUNCO groups and made many great friends there. Jean loved to cook and bake—especially for family and friends and was always asked for her recipes. She loved reading books or her Kindle, and she was very computer-savvy. She also loved to sew and knit, and her handiwork has been worn and graced the homes of many friends and family. Jean was an animal lover and adored her pets. They were her loves and constant companions.
After David died (2013), Jean experienced some health issues and came to live in CO with her daughter and her husband. She eventually moved to assisted living and then a nursing home.
Jean is survived by her sister Bev (Bob) Ashmore, Buckley, WA; and brother Steve (Pam) Unzeitig, NV; and her 'bonus' sister Dawn (Rob) Youngblood. Her daughter Terri (Marty) Heisel, Fort Morgan, CO; her son Jay (Cathy) Budik, Brighton, CO; grandchildren David (Allison) Budik, Henderson, CO; Nicole Budik, Brighton, CO; Caitlyn Heisel (Sal), Greeley, CO and Cory (Alex) Williams, Colorado Springs, CO. Her Greatgrandchildren Bobby, Jayce and Brody, Jaxon, and Evelynn. And many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband David Budik, parents Alfred and Elaine Unzeitig, and her sister Karen and husband Barney Barnak.
Jean will be remembered well as a kind and generous mother, sister, aunt and friend. Special thank you to all the staff at Eben Ezer and Pastor Ro and Hospice of the Plains, who made Jean's life so loving and enriched.
A graveside service will be July 14, 2023 at 11:00am at Gethsemane Cemetery, 37600 Pacific Highway S, Federal Way, WA. A reception following the service will be at 9220 28th Avenue S, Lakewood, WA (at the Clubhouse).
If you wish to remember Jean with a donation, please do so at an animal shelter of your choice.
