Obituary

Jerry E. White, 74, longtime Fort Morgan resident and former Lieutenant with the Fort Morgan Police Department, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 14, 2017 at Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan.

Jerry was born in Fort Morgan on October 7, 1942 to Neil & Zora (Albright) White. At the age of 14 he moved from Chula Vista, CA to Weldona where he lived with his aunt and uncle, Ruth & "Skin" Powell. After graduating from Weldon Valley School, Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force and returned home in 1962 where he married Sharon Scheirman on August 5, 1962. He and Sherry moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming until his discharge from the Air Force when they returned to Fort Morgan and he went to work for Clark Feather Manufacturing.  In 1969, the family moved to Orchard where he worked in the carpentry field. In 1971, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer for the Fort Morgan Police Department. In 1978, he and Sherry, along with their three beloved daughters, permanently settled in Fort Morgan. On February 3, 2007, Jerry retired from the Fort Morgan Police Department as Lieutenant after serving 36 honorable years.

Jerry was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2251, Fort Morgan, and a former member of the Brush Masonic Lodge #123 AF & AM. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, traveling, dancing, and "Jerry-Rigging" on several projects he enjoyed working on. He and Sherry also enjoyed being snowbirds, traveling to Texas in the winter months where they stayed at Ransom Road RV Park. For several years they built long-lasting friendships with other couples at the park. Jerry was a gentle hearted, kind, and loving man, often befriending those who he came in contact with as a police officer.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry of Fort Morgan; three daughters and their husbands, Susan (Mike) Bailey of Brush, Lynda Kaye (Dan) McKelvey of Windsor, and Cathy (Rich) Staley of Fort Morgan; his brother, Tom (Ruth) White and sister, Diane (Ward) Potter of Severance, CO.  Jerry is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Shawn Bailey of Aspen, CO, Richele (Ryan) Probasco of Brush, and Caitlyn Staley (Cody Poitz) of Fort Morgan.
