Joe Cipriano Duran Sr., 94, of Log Lane Village, went to Heaven, on Saturday, January 23, 2016.

He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on December 6, 1921,to Celestino and Ruth Duran.

Joe was a hard working farm boy. He was drafted into the Army in 1943 where he served his country proudly until after WWII in 1946.   He was always proud of being a WWII Veteran.

He married Judy Buena on December 30, 1948 in Fort Morgan.

Joe farmed until 1953 when he began his career in cement with Green Brothers for two years after which time he worked for Dorn Ready Mix. He later established a partnership with Bill Baker in Joe and Bill Concrete. One time when he was working, a leaf fell onto some of his wet cement and left an impression in the cement.   After that time, he left a leaf impression on purpose somewhere in his finished work as his calling card. If you look around town and see a leaf imprint on a corner or somewhere on a sidewalk you will know that Joe was the one that finished that cement. He was working on his own when he worked his final job at the age of 90. He liked to work and just refused to retire. His wife Judy owned the La Paloma restaurant from 1976 until 1995 and every day before he went to his regular job he would go over to the restaurant and clean up and maybe start something cooking before she got there in the morning.

Joe loved fishing vacations with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, making walking sticks, and was Log Lane Marshal for a time. In 2012 he was invited to go on an Honor Flight to Washington DC with Veterans from around the country.

Survivor s include, three sons, Joe C Duran Jr. (Deb) of Thornton, Larry Duran (Renee) of Thornton, and Tom Lee Duran of Fort Morgan, three daughters, Gloria Duran Vowell (Paul H.) of Fort Morgan, Barbara Duran Hamilton of Nixa, Missouri, and Debra Duran Smith (Ken) of Fort Morgan, one sister, Millie Baltazar of Boulder, 15 granchildren, and 32 great grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Duran, one son, Ruben Duran, three brothers, Dale, Chris, and Steve Duran, five sisters, Tillie Holquin, Hermatilda Padilla, Carmen Trujillo, Lucile Ulevarri, and Angelina Montoya, and his parents.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 2 until 6 pm followed by a Rosary Vigil at 6:00 pm at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10:00 am at Saint Helena's Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
