Joel T.
Ocanas
Jul 18, 1952 — Oct 21, 2025
Joel T. Ocanas, 73, of Newark, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 18, 1952, in Nuevo León, Tehran, Mexico, to the late Elias and Juana (Tovar) Ocanas.
Joel was a hardworking man who spent 35 years working on oil rigs, providing for his family with dedication and pride. In his free time, he loved fishing, watching Westerns, and sharing laughs with those around him. A lifelong Broncos fan, he especially enjoyed friendly wagers with his nephew, Miah, and cheering on his team each season.
Joel was known for his sense of humor and playful spirit—always the practical joker and a big kid at heart. Above all, he was a devoted family man who treasured spending time with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, especially his nephew Adrian. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of Family of Faith Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his children, Joel (Tina) Ocanas, Jason Ocanas, Jacob (Kat) Ocanas, and Alyssa Keller; siblings, Jesse (Sandy) Ocanas, Israel Ocanas, Mary (Rick) Buena, Sylvia (Vic) Rivera, and Sally (Gilbert) Guitterez; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Ocanas, Eleazar Ocanas, and Danny Ocanas.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM with the funeral service starting at 2:00 PM at Heer Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave., Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
