John C. Barber II, 79, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the North Colorado Medical Center Hospice Unit in Greeley after a lengthy illness.

John was born April 14, 1937 in Joplin, Missouri to John & Mary (Smith) Barber. After high school he served in the US Army. He married Katie Kraft-Needham on November 20, 1959 in Ogallala, NE. John was a district manager in the trucking business for the majority of his life.

John enjoyed wood working, working on vehicles, and building and collecting model cars. He won several awards and trophies for his 51' Chevy convertible. He was Treasurer of AARP for several years and he won the Angels Among Us Award in 2008. John had also been nominated for Who's Who in America. He and Katie were foster parents to several children and also spent much of their time doing charitable works for the homeless and needy.

Survivors include his wife, Katie Barber of Fort Morgan; his children, Johnny Ray Lee (Margaret) of Quinlan, TX, Sharron Kay Counas of Grand Junction, John C. Barber III (Sandy) of Wiggins, and Michael Barber of Pueblo; his brother, Charles Barber of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, David Webb, Brandy Barber, McKayla Barber, and Chilaha Barber; five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Edwin Wayne Barber; his sisters, Sylvia Barber and Emma Schapler; and his granddaughter, April Dawn English.

A service to celebrate John's Life will be Wednesday, February 15th at 10:30 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the chapel. A reception will follow at the V.F.W. in Fort Morgan.
