John Steven Grooms, known to all as Steve or "Papa," was born on September 29, 1948, and passed away on April 2, 2026, at the age of 77, after a long battle with Dementia. He lived his entire life in Brush, Colorado, surrounded by the love he built here and the family and friends who felt it every day.

Steve was born to John and Margret Faye Grooms. He was always the kind of man people counted on. Steady, proud, and deeply devoted to the people he loved. He married his long-time best friend and love of his life, Jennifer Grooms, on February 5, 2013, after 16 years of dating. Their partnership was strong, full of laughter, and rooted in true love.

He was a proud father to Josh (Angela) Headley, Hannah (Vidal) Vargas, and Tanner Headley. Yet, one of the accomplishments he valued above all else was being Papa. He treasured his grandbabies; Jaydin, Ariah, Enzo, and Nico Vargas; with a love that showed in everything he did.
Nothing brightened his day more than school picks ups, random pop ins, family dinners and time together.

Steve's siblings include his sister Leslie (Edward) Basler and brother Larry Grooms.
Nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and long-time friends.

Steve took great pride in his work and passions. He was known for his career in pyrotechnics, participating in the first ever PGI, and for decades proudly putting on firework shows for Morgan County and surrounding areas. He was also a long-time member of Taekwondo, earning the rank of 3rd degree black belt.

He owned and operated Big Bang Fireworks, and 4 amusement; a testament to how much he loved creating, building, and sharing joy with others.

In his spare time, he enjoyed classic cars, cigars, hunting, good wine, and great food. He loved his dry humor, his small moments of fun, and the comfort of home.
He will be remembered for the way he loved being with family. Always hosting, tinkering in his shop, and especially looking forward to the pop-ins from his sister Les, and nieces Chris and Kate. He could often be found on the porch with a cigar and a drink in hand, surrounded by the warmth of family life.
He adored his dogs and cats through the years, they brought him endless happiness.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father;his mother-in-law Barb Schippert; his niece Sunny Grooms;his great-niece Atlas Grooms, as well as his lost companion Sharon Hoffer.

Steve "Papa" Grooms leaves behind a legacy of love, pride, laughter, and family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him, and in the unforgettable way he showed what it means to love.

No amount of time, tears or grief will ever fill the void in our lives.
Watch over us Papa, visit, and wait for us. One day we will see you again to skip through those gates together.
