John Richard Hass John Richard Hass, 87, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, in Brush, Colorado. Richard was born to Okla Hass and Irene (Sharp) Hass on November 9, 1939, in Brush, Colorado, while the family was residing in Last Chance, Colorado.

Richard spent his early years in the mountains of Colorado, living from Livermore to Derby. At the age of 14, his family moved back to Brush, where he attended Brush High School. Richard was a member of the wrestling team and graduated with the class of 1957.

Richard and Kathy (Linker) Hass were married at Immanuel Congregational Church in Brush on August 31, 1959. For 67 years, they built a beautiful life together and raised two sons, Richard Blaine Hass and John Derek Hass.

Richard lived a life centered around hard work, family, and his love of the outdoors. He was an avid trapper, hunter, and fisherman, and he loved sharing his passion for the mountains with his family. Many cherished memories were made camping at Red Feather Lakes with Kathy and their boys.

Richard had many hobbies and talents. He enjoyed arrowhead hunting with Kathy and his sons, collecting hundreds of arrowheads that he transformed into beautiful art displays, many of which hang in "his" sitting room. Using his artistic talents, Richard also began collecting antlers and carving intricate nature scenes into them. He traveled to art shows, proudly displaying and selling his unique creations. One of his proudest accomplishments came in 2026 when he received the blue ribbon at the Brush 4th of July Art Show. Outside of his hobbies and family Richard had a love for Colorado sports. If there was a big game or small game he was watching and cheering, through rough years and good years, The Colorado Avalanche being his favorite.

Of all the things Richard enjoyed, some of his greatest joys came from watching his grandchildren participate in sports and dance and sharing his love of hunting and the outdoors with them.

Richard was an active and dedicated member of his community. He was instrumental in helping establish the Jaycees chapter in Brush, where he volunteered his time as an instructor, sharing his passion for fishing and hunting and helping local youth obtain their hunting licenses. He also volunteered as a peewee wrestling coach and proudly served with the Brush Fire Department for 20 years before retiring.

Richard worked several jobs throughout his life, including at Lebsock Grocery Store, in the oil fields, and for Olsen Construction. He later took over Ackley's Building Center before starting his own cement and construction business, Hass Construction, which he operated until his retirement.

Richard was a well-known and highly skilled craftsman whose work can be seen throughout the Brush community. He built homes in Brush, including the first bi-level home, and completed countless remodeling and custom woodworking projects for local families.

Hass Construction truly became a family business, with his wife, Kathy, by his side and his sons, Blaine and Derek, working alongside him until they became adults. Richard took great pride in the work he did and in the family he built along the way.

Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathy Hass of Brush; son, John Derek (Morgan) Hass of Brush; grandchildren, Dustin (Cassandra) of Arizona, Nevaeh, Alexandrea, Drake, Trenton (Sheryl) Hass, and Chandra Hass; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Roxanna, and Amberlee; and step-grandchildren, Kaden and Valerie.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Okla and Irene Hass; his sister, Edna Norwood; his brothers, Archie and Raymond Hass; and his oldest son, Blaine Hass.

Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, craftsmanship, community service, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories he created with them and the many lives he touched throughout his 78 years.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 31, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Congregational Church, 209 Everett St, Brush, Colorado, followed by a reception at the Carroll Building, 418 Edison Street, Brush.
