John P. Jones, 88, long-time Wiggins area resident, died early Saturday morning at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Ft. Morgan. He was born April 19, 1923 in McLouth, KS to William and Olive Jones. He married Mary Virginia Heywood on March 28, 1948 in McLouth, KS. John worked as a meat-cutter for many years. He retired from the Your Choice Meat Co. 20 years ago and began ranching with his family. He was a member of the First Denver Friends Church and attended the Wiggins Community Church in Wiggins. He spent many hours volunteering for several service organizations and serving on the Wiggins Town Council. He would do anything for anybody that needed help. He loved his family and especially, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; one daughter, Mary Ellen Mercer of Wiggins; three sons, Tim Jones and Tom Jones, both of Wiggins, and Ed Jones of Sugarland, TX; three sisters, Viola Edmonds and Alfreda Ryan, both of McLouth, KS and Hildredth Stockwell of Hoyt, KS; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Wiggins Community Church in Wiggins. The service will conclude at the church. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the Women's Fellowship of the Wiggins Community Church, 423 Dickson, Wiggins, CO 80654.
