John "Jack" Erwin Roth of Snyder, Colorado passed in the company of his wife Kathryn and God on the 16th of August at the age of 84.

John was born on June 28, 1933 in Denver, Colorado to Matt Roth born in Austria / Hungary and Natalie Lapham born in Ouray, Colorado. John grew up on the family farm in Broomfield before moving to Maysville, CO where he helped run the family diner and gas station. This is where John discovered his love for cars and making them run… fast.

After graduating from Salida High School in 1952, John joined the Air Force in 1953. He proudly served for four years as a radio operator at Clovis Air Force Base in New Mexico. Prior to New Mexico, John took courses in electronics, air traffic control, and radar repair at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. John ended his active duty service as a Staff Sergeant and received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

After his service, John served in the reserves and returned to Garfield to help run the family businesses as well as grade Monarch Pass during winter to allow for safe passage. In 1961, John married Jossiebell Houle of Salida. After adopting Jody's son Kenneth at the age of two, the family was blessed with three additional children: Kaylyn, Karen and John Jr.

John became a State Trooper in 1964 and he patrolled Washington and Morgan Counties. John was the Auto Theft Technician for Morgan County, taught drivers safety course, and guest lectured at the college. He retired after 29 years of service in 1993. He also worked at Westside Auto Parts where he was able to indulge in his love of antique cars and mechanics. John was a member of the Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club, Fort Morgan Elks Lodge, The American Legion, Gideons International, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

In 1998, John opened Old Time Mechanics in Brush before moving it to Snyder where he operated it for nearly 20 years. In his later years, he could be found working on cars and listening to baseball or football games, often in the company of his youngest son, John Jr.

In June of 1999, John married the love of his late life, Kathryn Krueger. The two were married at Trinity Lutheran Church and John grew his family to include children Carmen, Steven, Sandi and son-in-law Bob, and Debbie and son-in-law Randy, as well as grandchildren Aaron, Billy, Wes, Mitch, Justin, Kelly, Vanessa, and Lindsay.

John and Kathryn were inseparable and enjoyed traveling, dancing, visiting family, attending Cowboy Church, and going to social events during their 18 years together. John courageously battled lymphoma for the last two years of his life with his wife and family by his side.

John was preceded in death by his parents, three older brothers: Chuck, Matt, and Rollie, daughter Carmen, and granddaughter Melissa. Survivors include his wife Kathryn, his sisters Su and Judy, brother-in-law Bill Sunderlin, and his children Kenneth and daughter-in-law Vicky of Morgan County, Kaylyn of Las Vegas, NV, Karen and son-in-law Dan Myers of Golden, and John Roth Jr. of Centennial. He is loved as Papas by his grandchildren Amanda of Washington, DC, Jennifer of Greeley and Sylvia of Yukon, OK, his seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was known for his friendly manner, faith in God, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, August 22nd, 6-8pm at Heer Mortuary at 222 Cameron St in Brush.Services will be held Wednesday August 23rd 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church at 800 Sherman Street in Ft Morgan and followed by a luncheon.
