John Rusch's Obituary
John Robert Rusch, 93 of Fort Morgan, joined his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at home. He was born to John and Mary (Betzold) Rusch on November 12, 1924 east of town.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday November 30th at 1:30 p.m. at Heer Mortuary and will conclude at Serenity Gardens in Riverside Cemetery.
He met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Hein at a carnival in Fort Morgan one summer night. They were together every day from then on. The two married on February 10, 1952 at the Christ Congregational Church in Ft. Morgan. They made their home south of Fort Morgan where they began their family and started their own farming operation. Barbara passed away on the couple's 63rd wedding anniversary in 2015, on the hour they were wed. His was the season of harvest. From the beginning of his life to his final weeks, he drove from field to field, watching as his son's corn was harvested. His family always came first. He ingrained a love and respect of agriculture into each of his three children. He shared the knowledge that he reaped over the years with them and ensured they understood the importance of returning to the land what they took from it. John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a man that needed little and that found great joy in the successes of others.
John is survived by son, John Randal Rusch and his wife, Becky, daughter Lorri Schlueter and Dr. David Cobb, son Mark Rusch and his wife, Annette all of Fort Morgan. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially important to him. Kendra Azevedo and husband, Randy, Jill Brownell and her husband, Craig of Sterling. Matthew Rusch and his wife Chelsea of Greeley, James Brandon Schlueter, Jason Rusch and Samantha Swanson, all of Fort Morgan. Great Grandchildren, Ethan Brownell, Derek and Alison Swanson and Bennett Rusch. Each had a special place in his heart. Other survivors include brother, Ed Rusch and his wife, Ila and family of Castle Rock, sister, Betty Ruff of Fort Morgan and her family. Also, many nieces, nephews and lifetime friends that were considered family and Barbara's brother LaVern Hein.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Marjorie Rusch in childhood, Mary Kress, Jean Groves, Dorothy Bernhardt, brother, Ted, his son in law Jim Schlueter and grandson in law, Todd Swanson.
A memorial made in John's name C / O Heer Mortuary has been established.
