John Young Vaughan, 83, longtime resident of Morgan County, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland, Colorado. He was born December 30, 1925 in Weatherford, Oklahoma, to Samuel and Anna Vaughan. John grew up and attended school in Thomas, Oklahoma. He married Arla Jean Baker on February 10, 1944 in Williston, North Dakota and together they raised four children. John served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 as Motor Machinist's Mate Third Class. Over the years, John worked at car dealerships, owned and operated two tractor dealerships and later a parts store/auto body shop/gas station, and farmed and ranched. He was general manager of Buick Chevrolet and retired as general manager of B-C Equipment in Fort Morgan. John was a lifetime member of the Fort Morgan Young Farmers Chapter. He had also been recently honored with his 50 Year membership award from the Masonic Lodge of Fort Morgan. His favorite pastimes included fishing, playing cards and restoring old cars. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. At the time of his death, John resided at Park Regency Assisted Living in Loveland, Colorado. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Arla Vaughan of Brush; his children, John D. and Dorleen Vaughan of Cañon City, Betsy and Randy Graff of Fort Morgan, Vickie and Danny Brown of Broomfield, and Bruce and Cindy Vaughan of Longmont; his brother, Glenn and Lynnie Vaughan of Aurora; grandchildren Heather and Chuck McDuffie of Cañon City, Amy Graff of Aurora, David Benitez of Seoul, South Korea, James and Letty Graff of Fort Morgan, Amanda Peters of Denver, Amanda Vaughan of Greeley and Tyler Vaughan of Greeley; great-grandchildren Justin McDuffie of Cañon City, and Hannah, Simon, Jacob and Rachel Graff of Fort Morgan, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Reva Groshans, a brother-in-law Eddie Groshans and a brother Carl Vaughan. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel at 225 East Platte Ave., Fort Morgan. Inurnment will be in the Serenity Falls Columbarium. Immediately following there will be a reception celebrating John's life at the Sanctuary West Campus, 14587 Highway 34, Fort Morgan. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Fort Morgan Young Farmers Scholarship c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuaries.
