John E. Wehrer, 72, lifelong area resident, passed away at his home early Sunday morning, August 2, 2015 after a lengthy battle with cancer. John was born February 7, 1943 in Brush to William and Annie Wehrer. He was raised and attended school in the Snyder area. John worked as a police officer and then a truck driver before his retirement. He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. #1143 and the Morgan Game And Fish Conservation Club. John was also a Beneficiary Member of the NRA. As an avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing and hunting, gunsmithing, and gun collecting. He also collected coins and loved to cook, barbecue, and entertain family and friends. John is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 42 years, Diane Wehrer; his son, Gene Wehrer and wife, Cindy; his two daughters, Janette Wehrer and Jody Wehrer-Frahm, all of Fort Morgan; five grandchildren, Tanya Koch and husband, Justin, Kevin Wehrer, Brandon Frahm, Austin Kroskob, and Allen Hall; his great grandchildren, Ellie Koch and Karson Koch; his brother, William Wehrer Jr. and wife, Mable of Missouri; two sisters, Margaret Newton and husband, Willie, and Lillian Knight, all of South Carolina; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Terry Bramble and Bill and Susan Buckingham, and many many nieces and nephews. John is also survived by a host of extended family and friends that were dear to him; Kathy Zwetzig, Rocky and Justice Bower, Elizabeth and Neil Davis and their daughter, Emma, and Sonia Schwenke and her family. John was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Larry Wehrer and Donnie Wehrer; his sisters, Pearl Nichols, Vivian Ferguson and Marie Easlick; and the apple of his eye, his beloved granddaughter, Briana Frahm. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at the Sanctuary, 14587 Hwy. 34 in Fort Morgan on Friday, August 7th at 11:00 AM. Private Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan at a later date.
