Jose P. Hernandez, 30, former Fort Morgan area resident, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008, of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident in Groton, CT. Jose was born March 8, 1978, in New Britain, CT, to David F. & Patricia H. Hernandez. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1997. He joined the US Navy on February 4, 1998. At the time of his death, Jose was stationed at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute aboard the US Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT. He loved his military career. He was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church. Survivors include his Mother, Patricia H. Romero of Sterling, CO; 1 sister, Aurora A. Hernandez of Pueblo, CO; 2 brothers, Roberto C. Hernandez of Fort Morgan and Mario D. Hernandez of Sterling, CO; his former wife, Andrea Robinson-Hernandez; his paternal Grandparents, J. F. & Virginia Hernandez of Fort Morgan; his maternal Grandfather, Ernesto E. Romero of Palm Beach, FL; and he was the nephew of Emily Avalos, Hope Rodarte, Eddie & Rosina Hernandez, and Stella & Gilbert Lujan and a special nephew, Adrian Alexander Salazar of Greeley, CO. He was preceded in death by his Father, David Hernandez, and his maternal Grandmother, Juana Romero. Rosary & Vigil services will be Friday at 5:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. Military graveside services by the US Navy will follow at Memory Gardens.
