Jose (Joe) Luis Machuca, 56, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Sunset Manor in Brush. He was born November 10, 1954, in Chihuahua, Mexico to Trinidad & Fermina Machuca. Joe moved to the Brush area in 1972. Jose married Idalia Martinez on November 3, 1973, in Sterling, CO. Following their marriage, Machuca's moved to Rocky Ford where they lived until 1977. They then moved back to Morgan County where Joe worked for Weisbart Hog Farm until 1984. He then worked as a ranch hand for Steve Treadway Farms until 1987. Joe was injured in a car accident on November 3, 1987. He was cared for by his wife for 17 years until Idalia's death in 2004. Since that time Joe has been cared for by his children and Sunset Manor Nursing home until his passing. Joe enjoyed listening to old music, watching old western movies, and working with farm animals. He loved playing with family pets and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a prankster and enjoyed pulling pranks on all he came in contact with. Survivors include his 4 children, Andrea Machuca of Brush, Jose T. Machuca of Snyder, Israel Machuca of Tulsa, OK, and Nathan Guzman of Brush; 5 brothers, Manuel, Juan, Hermino, Ramon, and Sergio all of Mexico; 4 sisters, Imelda, Martha, Bertha, and Lucilla all of Chihuahua, Mexico; and 5 grandchildren, Seren Machuca, Ismael Torralba, Jenisa Torralba, Hunter Machuca, and Aandres Machuca. He was preceded in death by his wife, Idalia; 2 sisters, Blanca and Trini Machuca, and his parents. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Inurnment will be in the Brush Memorial Cemetery Columbarium.
