Josephine "Jo"
Roberts
Dec 16, 1917 — Jul 7, 2024
After a long and wonderful life, Jo Roberts of Wiggins passed away at 106 years of age. Alice Josephine Adams was born in Wiggins, Colorado on December 16, 1917 to Lucy Campbell Adams and George Adams. She grew up in Wiggins. Her mother and father owned a grocery store and later her father was the school janitor for 20 years. Jo graduated from Wiggins High in 1935.
Jo eloped with Stub (Clyde) Roberts in 1938. They were married 68 years and had five children (Jerry, Jim, twins Judy, Janet and John). In those 68 years of marriage Stub and Jo worked for a farmer in Franktown, moved to Denver to work for Gates Rubber, moved to Alaska before WW II to work construction, came back to Wiggins and bought the pool hall, later bought a parts store, then bought the hotel in town and in 1949 opened a gas station in town. In 1971 they moved the gas station out of town to its current location. Jo helped Stub with all his business ventures as bookkeeper, cashier, hotel manager, janitor and many other jobs. Jo continued to work at Stub's Gas & Oil until she was 82 years old.
Jo was an original member of the Wiggins Community Church and held offices on the board. She was a member and held offices of the Wiggins Auxiliary for over 70 years. Jo was elected to the Wiggins Town Council in the 1970's. She loved to travel, go to plays, read and socialize. Jo was able to celebrate her 100th birthday in 2017 with over 150 people in attendance. Jo loved life and each day said what a great life she had been given.
She was predeceased by her parents Lucy and George, her siblings Catharine, Mitchell, Ella Mary and Georgia; her husband Stub, their two sons, Jim and John and their daughter Judy. She is survived by her son Jerry and his wife Dianne and their two daughters Artie and Gayle of Sahuarita, Arizona and her daughter Janet and Judy's son Steven Klecka (wife Lindsay) of Wiggins. She is survived by eight great grandchildren – Wesley, Khloe, Braxton, Lucas, Olivia, Devin, Georgia and Bailey and one great, great granddaughter, Alayah.
The Roberts family would especially like to thank the staff at Harmony Home for their love and wonderful care they gave Jo. At Jo's request there will be no service. Jo's ashes will be taken to the family plot in Hoyt, Colorado in a private service (her grandparents homesteaded on road 3 by the Midcap farm which is near the cemetery). Donations may be made at the Fort Morgan Humane Society, 900 East Railroad Avenue, Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
