Joyce Miriam Nelson, 89, longtime area resident, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at her home in Greeley. Joyce was born October 19, 1923 at her home near Elba, Colorado to George and Bessie (Houck) Frederick. She was married to George Nelson for almost 50 years. They later divorced. He died in 2003. Joyce was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Ft. Morgan. When she was in school, she used to ride her horse to their one room schoolhouse. Joyce enjoyed reading and working. Her family was very important to her. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Carlson of Greensboro, North Carolina, Debra Fransen and husband Dean of Colorado Springs, and Lori Pollock and husband John of Wiggins, three sons, Byran Nelson and wife Robyn of Cochiti Lake, New Mexico, Roger Nelson and wife Deann of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Gary Nelson and wife Susan of Akron, seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, two brothers, two sisters, and her parents. Funeral Services will be Friday, March 15, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Heer Mortuary Chapel, in Ft. Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. The Heer Mortuary in Ft. Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.
