Obituary

JUAN B. GOMEZ JR., 84, former Wiggins resident, went to meet the Lord on Sunday, February 19, 2012. He was born on August 14, 1927 in Encinal, TX to Juan & Francisca (Barrera) Gomez. On September 5,1961 he married Alicia Trevino in Wiggins. They lived in Wiggins for many years until Alicia passed away on July 24, 2001. At that time Juan moved to Fort Morgan to live with his daughter Janie. Juan later moved to Brighton in 2007 with his other daughter Terry. Juan worked on a farm for many years before driving a propane truck for Johnsons Achzigers Propane, and then Van Gas Propane, which later became Suburban Propane. He drove for them for over 20 years before his retirement. Juan was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Wiggins. He played the guitar and accordion in a band for several years, and in the past, also enjoyed coaching T Ball and Fast Pitch. He earned the Safe Driver Award while working for Van Gas. He was known by everyone as " A Crook" because he called everyone crook. He is survived by his children, Elida Haarer of Columbia, MD, Terry Martinez of Brighton, Carlos Gomez of Akron, Janie Gomez of Fort Morgan, Ricardo J. Gomez of Brighton, Mike Gomez of Arvada, and Juan Gomez III of Fort Morgan, 20 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alicia; his son, Fredrico; his daughter, Alicia; and his brother, Gilbert. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. A Rosary will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Wiggins. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 am with Father Hector Chiapa-Villarreal officiating. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Ft. Morgan.
