Juana "Jenny"
Mejia
May 6, 1951 — Jul 14, 2023
Juana "Jenny" Mejia was called home to heaven July 14, 2023, at Northern Colorado Medical Center. She was 72.
Juana, better known as Jenny, was the 10th of 15 children born to Santos and Celsa Guzman. She was born in Brush, Colorado on May 6, 1951, and grew up in Brush, graduating from Brush High School in 1969.
She married the love of her life, Rod Mejia on June 17, 1972. Together they had two children, Christopher and Tiana (Vicki), and shared the past 51 years building a life in Brush, Fort Morgan and later in Sterling.
Throughout her life, Jenny held various jobs, including working as a legal secretary. But it was working with children in any educational platform that Jenny found her calling. She worked as a teacher at head start, was the children's librarian at the Fort Morgan Public Library, worked as a secretary at South Plate BOCES and was a secretary at Fort Morgan High School in both the library and later in the counselor's office.
Jenny was also a pioneer, becoming the first women to be initiated into the Fort Morgan Elks Lodge BPOE 1143 in early 2000. She was a former DOES officer as well.
Her real joy came from family and in April 2007, grandchildren became Jenny's whole world with the birth of her first grandchild Christiana. It was at this time that Jenny became a full-time grandma, blessing the family as the grandchildren's child-care provider. She continued to watch her grandchildren full time until health problems prevented her from doing so.
Jenny was a kind, compassionate and generous soul. She loved her family, faith and grandchildren more than anything. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and keeping her home tidy and super organized. In fact, you might say her favorite appliance was her label maker which she used often. She enjoyed watching tv, playing cards, playing board games and solving puzzles with her family, friends and especially with her grandchildren. She enjoyed the company of family and looked forward to various family get-togethers with her children or brothers and sisters.
Jenny is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Rod Mejia, her son Christopher Mejia (Melissa), daughter Tiana Kelley (Christopher), five grandchildren, Christiana, Ethan, Eric, Michael and Dannon, three brothers, Santos Jr. Guzman (Susan), Frank Guzman (Brenda), Benjamin Guzman (Jami), five sisters. Beatrice Carrillo (Joe), Aurelia Lopez (Nacho), Marlene Acosta (Felix), Virginia Rosales (Mike), Rose Alexander (Charlie), and Gloria Petesch (Jim), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jenny was preceded in death by her parents Santos and Celsa Guzman, Brothers Florence, Floyd, Nate and Robert Guzman and sister Angie Torrez.
