KATHERINE M. HERBST, 92, of Brush, died Sunday morning, August 8, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. She was born March 21, 1918 in Sugar City, CO to Johannas & Katherine (Markus) Heil. She grew up in Sugar City and attended school there until the tenth grade and then she attended practical nurses training school, receiving her title as L.P.N. She married Fred Herbst on April 24, 1936 in Rocky Ford, CO. They moved to Brush shortly after their marriage and lived here from that time on. Mrs. Herbst worked at the Eben Ezer Hospital in Brush for nearly 30 years before her retirement in 1986. Mrs. Herbst was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush and A.A.R.P. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, knitting, baking, and gardening, especially her flowers. Survivors include her son, Edward Herbst of Brush; her daughter, Bertha Snell of Colorado Springs, CO; her brother, Robert Heil of Boulder; her sister, Elsie Smith of Colorado Springs, 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl Heil, Don Heil, Ervin Heil, and Joe Heil; three sisters, Bertha Jo Heil, Betty Scott, and Hildie Kirby; her husband, Fred Herbst; and her parents. Visitation will be Thursday, August 12th from 5 – 8 PM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Funeral services will be Friday, August 13th at 10:30 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. Interment will follow in Brush Memorial Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in Mrs. Herbst's name to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
