Obituary

Kathleen Marie Kelley, affectionately known as "Momma" to all who knew and loved her, was called home to heaven Thursday morning at East Morgan County Hospital in Brush, Co after a long battle with cancer. She was 63. Kathleen Kelley, born Kathleen Curran March 20th 1947 in Girard, Kansas was the third or four children to Charles and Pauline Curran. In 1954 Kathy moved with her family to the Pueblo area and lived there for 30-years. Kathy graduated Pueblo Central High School in 1965 and later attended the University of Southern Colorado where she earned her nursing degree. She married Michael O. Kelley on November 2, 1974 and raised three children with him. Mrs. Kelley began her 38-year career as a nurse in Pueblo, working the surgery floor at Parkview Hospital. In 1984 she moved to Greeley, Colorado where she continued to work as a nurse; eventually working the cardiac floor at Northern Colorado Medical Center. In 1989 Kathy moved to Brush and worked for East Morgan County Hospital, leaving in the fall of 2007 as Care Coordinator because of her illness. She was a two-time nominee for the Nightingale award; an honor bestowed upon the country's top nurses, and was recognized with the award in 1998. Mrs. Kelley often spoke of her love of her life's work and the joy she received from taking care of and helping others. She loved working with nurses, doctors and many other medical and support staff and appreciated the comradery that they shared. She also enjoyed music, flowers and spending time with family and friends. Kathy was a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother, sister; a caring and compassionate caregiver, and a humble and kind person. She had a sense of delight in the lives of those she cared about and was a beacon of joy to everyone privileged to know her. Mrs. Kelley was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose. She is survived by her husband Michael, three children, Ernest Cathcart, Maureen and Christopher Kelley, six grandchildren, Haleigh, Mallory, Ashley, Billy, Christiana and Ethan, one brother, Louis Curran and his wife Rosanne, two sisters, Paula Giordano and her husband Geno and Roberta Poole and her husband Ike, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
