Kathleen "Kay" Murphy, 87, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 20, 2014, at her residence in Timnath, CO. Kay was a long time resident of Brush. She was born May 22, 1927, in Dubuque, IA, to Joe & Grace McMahon. She married Leo Murphy Jr. on August 7, 1950 Kay graduated, from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Dubuque, IA. In 1962 the Murphy family moved to Brush where Kay worked as a registered nurse at East Morgan County Hospital and later Sunset Manor Nursing Home. She was a very active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Altar & Rosary Society. Kay was the loving mother to three children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Milton McMahon (Velma) of Dubuque, IA; children, Kathy Brown (Marc) of Timnath, CO; Joan Lucas (Tim) of Steamboat Springs, CO; Tom Murphy (Amy) of Gering, NE; grandchildren Mike Brown (Angie), Sara Ferrari (Joe), Megan Lucas, Nick Murphy, Caitlin Lucas and Katie Murphy; and great grandchildren Cheyanne Bohr, Sarah Bohr, Brittyn Murphy, Emma Brown and Lauren Ferrari. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Murphy Jr., and her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brush at 10:30 AM. Rosary service will precede the Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
