Kathryn "Kath"
Mehring
May 14, 1950 — Nov 15, 2025
Kathryn Mehring was born on May 14, 1950, in Akron, Colorado, to Joe and Ruth Mehring. She was the second of six children and grew up in the country, attending a small school four miles from home. Quiet and shy by nature, Kath was a loving big sister and an excellent babysitter. Her infectious laugh was one of her most memorable traits.
Kath graduated from Akron High School in 1968 and moved to Denver, where she attended business college and began her career. She worked for GEICO Insurance and later at the Denver Federal Center before returning to Fort Morgan to work for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. She remained there until health challenges led to her retirement.
In 1979, Kath met the love of her life, Johnny Bob Johnson, at Mr. Kay's. From that day forward, she was always by his side. Together, they shared a quiet life filled with music, kindness, and generosity. Kath was always willing to lend a helping hand and was deeply loved by family and friends.
She was a hero to her nieces and nephews, who cherished time spent with her and Johnny Bob.
Kath is survived by her husband, Johnny Bob Johnson; stepchildren, Barbara Stolp of Hillrose, Bill Johnson (D'Angela) of Clayton, NM, Bea Jae (Frank) Viescas of Rocky Ford, CO; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one more on the way; and siblings, Bill Mehring (Nancy) of Freeport, IL, Leone Smelser of Grand Junction, CO, Anthony Mehring, Mary Jeanne (Dave) Anderson, and Anna Marie (Billy) Cottrell, all of Fort Morgan.
Kath was preceded in death by her parents; stepson Brian Johnson; brother-in-law Charlie Smelser; nephew Joseph Smelser; and son-in-law Jody Stolp.
She will be remembered for her laughter, her kindness, and the love she shared with everyone around her. Greatly loved by her family and friends, Kath will be deeply missed.
