Katie L. Barber, 90, of Fort Morgan, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Katie was born January 31, 1933, in Grant, NE to George & Clara (Wieland) Kraft. After graduating high school Katie received her associate degree.

On November 20, 1959, Katie married John C. Barber II in Ogalla, NE. They moved to Fort Morgan from Fort Collins in 1962.

Katie worked for the RE-3 School District as a substitute teacher and a teacher's aide for several years. She was also an ESL teacher at Morgan Community College and had worked as a co-counselor for Centennial Mental Health. She was a member of the American Red Cross and was an active leader in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She also served as an Advisor for the Colorado State Education Department. In 2008, Katie received Morgan County's "Angels Among Us" award.

She is survived by her children, Sharron Counas of Grand Junction, John C. Barber III of Wiggins, and Michael Barber of Sterling; two sisters, Betty Jones of Wisconsin, and Susan Starr of Nebraska; one brother, Phillip Kraft of California, four grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her son, Edwin Barber, 11 siblings; and her granddaughter, April English.

A memorial service will be Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
