Kathryn "Kay" Reed Mitchell, 84, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007, at her home near Brush. She was born October 24, 1922, in Boulder, CO, to Walter & Kate Reed. She received her BA degree from the University of Colorado in 1945. During WW II, she traveled to Long Beach, CA, to marry a Brush native, Donald M. Mitchell who was serving in the US military there.. Kay & Don settled in the Brush community 56 years ago.. She was active in many organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, and PEO Chapter "T". She served on the Board of Directors for the East Morgan County Library Board for 10 years. She enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and reading. Survivors include her husband, Donald M. Mitchell of Brush; 5 children, Michael Mitchell of Windsor, CO, Jane VanderTuin of Colorado Springs, CO,, Christine M. Custer of Brownsville, MN, Donald R. "Pete" Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO; and Andrew W. Mitchell of Denver, CO; and 2 grandchildren, Jason Mitchell of Manhattan Beach, CA and Lauren Mitchell of Granby, CO. At Kay's request, no service will be held. The Heer Mortuary & Crematory is entrusted with the cremation arrangements. A memorial fund has been established with the Salvation Army of Greeley, P.O. Box 87, Greeley, CO 80632.
